Large Mode Area photonic crystal fibers – Polarization-Maintaining
Our Large Mode Area photonic crystal fibers are designed for diffraction-limited high-power delivery. The large mode area prevents nonlinear effects and material damage.
With standard fibers, you trade large mode areas for single-mode operation. With our Large Mode Area PM fibers, you get single-mode, polarization-maintaining operation in a wide range of wavelengths.
Endlessly single-mode operation
Handles high powers
Low fiber loss
Our LMA polarization-maintaining single-mode fibers are optimized for low loss and an almost constant mode field diameter. With standard technology, you trade large mode areas for single-mode operation. Our crystal fiber Large Mode Area polarization-maintaining fibers are endlessly single-mode (i.e. it has no higher-order mode cut-off) and deliver excellent mode quality at all wavelengths.
The PM-1550 has a strong form-birefringence and is optimized to create a short beat length between the polarizations. It has a reduced bend-coupling between polarization states, improved polarization extinction ratio, and is 30 times less temperature-sensitive than conventional high-birefringence fiber.
The LMA fibers are available in polarizing and polarization-maintaining versions.

If you want more details about how to handle optical fibers: Strip, cleave, and couple them, we have some application notes for you.
Optical fibers require proper handling to ensure a long lifetime and prevent fiber breaking. Read this guideline to learn how to handle optical fiber to keep both fiber and operator safe.
Read this application note if you would like to learn how to handle our optical fibers, e.g., including how to strip the protective coating, how to cleave the fibers, and how to couple light to and from the fibers.
