We have lasers in space and deep under the oceans and our products run in clean rooms and on oil rigs at sea. We seed the World’s largest laser fusion experiment and power hundreds of the most advanced microscopes on the Globe.

NKT Photonics is the leading supplier of high-performance fiber lasers and photonic crystal fibers. Our main markets are Medical & Life Science, Industrial, Aerospace & Defense, and Quantum & Nano Technology. Our products include supercontinuum white light lasers, low-noise fiber lasers, ultrafast lasers, and a wide range of specialty fibers. NKT Photonics has its headquarters in Denmark with sales and service worldwide. NKT Photonics is wholly owned by NKT A/S.

All NKT Photonics products are produced under our certified quality management system certified under the ISO 9001 standard. We have an ISO 9001 certificate for all three production sites; NKT Photonics – DS/EN ISO 9001:2015 Certificate and enclosure, and the ISO 13485 certificate for our Swiss site; NKT Photonics Switzerland – EN ISO 13485:2016 Certificate.

NKT Photonics develops innovative solutions with multiple applications. These technology-leading solutions are tapping into sustainable megatrends that will support growth opportunities for the company going forward.

Medical & Life Science

Medical & Life Science is the fastest-growing of our four market segments. Ultrafast lasers are finding particular use in ophthalmology, while supercontinuum lasers are used in advanced bio-imaging, enabling new ways of diagnosing, e.g., cancer.

Main applications for Medical & Life Science are:

  • Bio-imaging & microscopy
  • Ophthalmology

The Medical & Life Science segment is predominantly driven by a growing and aging population as well as a general increase in living standards around the World, leading to increased demand for ophthalmic and other medical procedures.


Industrial is the largest segment of NKT Photonics’ main markets. Customers in this segment use the full breadth of NKT Photonics’ product portfolio, including ultrafast lasers, sensing systems, and supercontinuum lasers.

Within the Industrial segment, NKT Photonics serves a wide range of subsegments and applications, such as:

  • Semiconductors
  • Remote sensing
  • Device characterization, sorting, and quality control

The Industrial segment is predominantly driven by a general megatrend of increased technological complexity – not least in the semiconductor market.

Aerospace & Defense

NKT Photonics utilizes its entire portfolio of products and capabilities to serve special project needs, focused mainly within the European and US markets.

With the opening of its manufacturing facility in Boston, Massachusetts, NKT Photonics can serve the US Aerospace & Defense market even more effectively.

The Aerospace & Defense segment is predominantly driven by an increased focus on security and asymmetrical threats.

Quantum & Nano Technology

Quantum technology covers a range of fast-growing segments within quantum computing, sensing, metrology, and communication.

Nano technology covers applications within the development of advanced materials such as graphene, carbon nano tubes, meta materials, plasmonic structures, and quantum dots. Finally, the segment includes a number of scientific instrumentation applications.
