Laser-improved cancer surgery

Today, one in eight women is diagnosed with breast cancer. New laser technology ensures better treatment.

A lumpectomy is a breast-conserving type of surgery used to treat breast cancer. Today around a third of lumpectomy patients needs follow-up surgery due to incomplete cancer removal. Going back into surgery results in increased costs, higher risks of complications, and anxiety in patients.

Based on our aeroPULSE PS UV laser, Dr. Pramod Butte and his team, together with pathologists at a medical center in Los Angeles, California, have developed a system with the power to improve lumpectomy outcomes.

The system helps surgeons determine – during surgery – if they have removed enough cancerous tissue. BlackLight Surgical aims to bring this innovation to market.
