A team from Duke University uses a SuperK EXTREME supercontinuum source from NKT Photonics to power the World’s first true color scanning laser ophthalmoscopy and optical coherence tomography handheld probe. The true color SLO could potentially provide earlier detection of age-related macular degeneration (AMD) and it may be possible to use it to evaluate the effects of various drugs or dietary supplements on the macular pigment density.
