Supercontinuum lasers fight invisible pollution

Outdoor air pollution caused over 4 million premature deaths in 2016. Every day, we breathe small particles and gasses that can cause strokes, cardiovascular diseases, and lung cancer. To fight air pollution, we must know what to fight – and where.

Read how the European consortium, FLAIR, is working on mapping air quality by designing a stand-alone system that:

  • can detect a whole spectrum of gasses
  • can fit onto an unmanned drone
  • can live-stream data to the ground via 4G

FLAIR’s goal is to map air quality and to locate the origins of air pollution across borders.

The consortium made a great video that gives you background information on air pollution and a lot of details of the system.
