Material Processing

Fiber lasers for material processing offers a wide of possibilities compared to traditional CO2 and DPSS solutions. Examples of these are energy efficiency, single mode operation, mode stability and foot print. Another important factor is simpler systems, which together with the other factors enable more cost effective lasers - purchase as well as running costs - as well as enable new applications within material processing.

The benefits of using Photonic Crystal Fibers (PCF) for high power fiber lasers are many; larger mode field diameter allows higher power levels and less nonlinearities, while maintaining stable single mode operation. This makes frequency conversion easier. With increasing demand for high pulse repetition rate, our rod fibers enables pulsed fiber lasers which increase the processing speed at the sample worked at.

Up to recently, only complete fiber laser systems have been available by a very few suppliers. NKT Photonics' approach is different, as we believe each application require an adaptation to the laser. We therefor offer everything from bare fibers to sub-systems which enable you to make your own fiberlasers adapted to the application it will be used at. By integrating all the difficult fiber-handling parts in sub-systems, the customer can focus on what they are good at while still benefitting on the advantages in the PCF technology. Hence, NKT Photonic lets the customer enter into the fiber laser value chain at the point where they want to enter rather than where they have to enter.

The new combiner line consists of pump combiners matching most the existing pump diodes (single emitters and bars) which are commercially available. These pump combiners enables cost-effective direct-diode lasers at almost any powerlevel for applications such as surface threatment. The power combiner on the other hand takes the output of multiple fiber lasers and combines them into one output beam of high beam quality, enabling the customer to build modulized high power fiber lasers basde on a simpler laser architecture and with redundancy allowing continuous operation of the laser also in the case of failure of laser modules.
