Photonic Crystal Fibers (PCF) allow for novel applications in a wide range of areas. Within sensing, supercontinuum generation for biomedical imaging and semiconductor inspection are already established applications which hav= e been enabled by our nonlinear PCFs. The frequency comb found in supercontinuum is used in recognized laboratories around the world for very precise time reference, an application which Theodor Hänsch in 2005 received the Nobel Prize in Physics for.
Within remote sensing, NKT Photonics' ultra-large mode field area doped fibers allows for single frequency high energy lasers which enable sensing over longer distances and with reduced signal / noise ratio. Another emerging application for our fibers are the hollow core fibers fiberbased optical gyroscopes (FOG). The combination of extremely low nonlinearities, tight bending radius and radiation insensitivity enables a new group of FOGs with increased sensitivity and for challenging environments.
