LIOS EN.SURE Distributed Power Cable Monitoring

As demand for electricity continues to rise, so does the challenges for power companies and power grids. To overcome one of the main factors of optimization of underground power transmissions and distribution installations we designed EN.SURE – with a temperature resolution better than 1°C and real time thermal rating you can safely utilize the existing network capacity to its maximum.

If you want to use your cables effectively and not have to worry about thermal soil resistivity, power line arrangement, adjacent cables, and others sources dispatching heat the LIOS EN.SURE is the perfect solution. Maximum applicable current load is no longer impossible, because with our technology and a simple optical fiber along the cable route, you can now monitor temperature in real time along the entire cable.

With our power cable monitoring system and powerful software it is possible to get a very detailed temperature read every few centimeters and store all this data for further analysis. In case of a failure, our system is still able to monitor the installation due to a built-in redundancy, offering an economic solution with less down-time and constant surveillance. Our Real Time Thermal Rating solution furthermore provides the operator with the ability to predict the behavior of the transmission system upon major changes made to its initial operation conditions.

When choosing a temperature monitoring system from NKT Photonics, you will be assisted from start to finish with your project and we will turn your project into a perfect solution. The passive and maintenance-free fiber optic sensor cable which is the basis for the EN.SURE real time condition monitoring solution can either be integrated directly inside an insulated high voltage underground cable (for instance FIMT, fiber in metal tube), mounted externally on the cable jacket, or installed in a separate duct close to the power cable. We will of course help you find the optimal solution for your project.
